Shiraz, Iran, the center of art and literature in the Middle East, is home to one of the oldest universities dating to the 7th Century. The city lies in south-central Iran, 935 kilometers south of Iran's capital, Tehran and sits at about 5,000 feet (1,600 meters), giving it a mild climate. Two great Persian poets, Saadi and Hafez are buried in Shiraz.
